Presentation

The Institute for Sustainable Development is an independent, non-governmental and non-profit organisation, whose main target of activity is the implementation and dissemination of the sustainable development concept in Poland.

The Institute was established in September 1990, and started its operations in the following year. Its founders were directly involved in the activities of the Polish Ecological Club, an independent ecological Polish NGO which was created in 1980. ISD is among the first "think-tank" institutions in the Central and Eastern Europe.

During the transformation period, which began in the 90s, aside the political and economical changes, had to be a place for ecology. The newly created Institute adopted the name "for Sustainable Development" in order to show its commitment and its interests.
